March 2006, and having obtained favorable outcomes in
over 70% of those cases, Jahra McLawrence is truly
trial tested and jury proven. These favorable
results exemplify Jahra’s hard work, compassion, and
attention to detail; these traits were developed from
a myriad of cultural, academic, and professional
experiences. After emigrating to this country from Dominica, West Indies, Jahra attended the esteemed Brooklyn Technical High School in New York. He then joined the U.S. Navy, where he served tours in Bosnia and Iraq. Following the Navy, Jahra enrolled at his beloved alma mater, Florida A&M University, where he graduated magna cum laude. Jahra then matriculated through law school at the University of Florida, graduating in 2001. During law school, Jahra interned at the Alachua County Public Defender’s Office and at the prestigious civil litigation firm headed by Willie Gary. Following law school, Jahra worked at the civil law firm of Stephen Rakusin, in Fort Lauderdale, where in addition to other legal duties, he assisted in the writing and editing of Mr. Rakusin’s texts, “Florida Creditor’s Rights Manual,” and “Florida’s Construction Lien Manual.” In March of 2003 Jahra joined the ranks of the overburdened, underappreciated, and underpaid attorneys at the Office of the Public Defender in Broward County. It was here that Jahra fulfilled a personal promise to advocate for the poor and disenfranchised. While at the Public Defender’s Office, Jahra spent countless hours honing his trial and litigation skills. Jahra’s tenure at the Office of the Public Defender was not only personally gratifying, but also professionally rewarding.
